The idea for Lacunazone began many years ago in a long-lost land when I worked in the NHS and education.
My name is Nona Malin Denvos. I have worked with incredible children and young people for over 20 years, who have shown how their individual needs are sometimes not always met.
Through my experience as a child and young people’s counsellor, trainer and supervisor, I have been inspired so many times by children and young people’s resilience to get through difficult life experiences and then navigate their way through an education system that does not always meet their needs. There are many reasons these gaps exist, and I believe this is not okay. All children and young people have a right to fulfil their potential into adulthood and to be supported by adults in informed ways that allow them to flourish and transition into the world.
Lacuna means “ to fill a gap”. Zone focuses on the targeted training needed to fill the gaps.
Since setting up Lacunazone in 2017, my professional associates and I have provided bespoke training to a broad audience within schools and other organisations. We have set up and continue to offer reflective practice sessions to trainee teachers to support their development.
Lacunazone’s services are underpinned by strong ethics, compassion and care for social justice. Our mission is rooted in action research, which has shown it has the capacity and capability to empower children, young people and staff who support them to meet individual needs and create opportunities to fulfil potential.
Anyone who accesses our services will gain further knowledge, skills, training and understanding to ensure that all children and young people are valued and have a right to be supported by professionals who can understand individual needs and be confident to work in ways that ensure effective relationships and promote best life chances into adulthood.

All our training has children’s and young person’s experiences and “voice” running through it and is designed to be highly informative, interactive and engaging. In our experience of attending training, we believe that if our training doesn’t evoke feelings, it will not be as valuable. Identifying training gaps within education and other organisations is at the heart of Lacunazone. Developing high-quality training to close some of these gaps is significant to me and other professionals I work alongside. Being part of the best outcomes for children and young people is a privilege, and despite the challenges, we all owe it to the children and young people we work with to be part of “filling the gap”.
To date we have:
According to the National Literacy Trust research, It is shocking that one in five children does not own a book. To bridge this gap and contribute positively, we donate books purchased from independent bookshops to schools and colleges.
